God Knew... And Somehow, We Did Too
From the very beginning, Adam and Sarah were walking among the graves.
Their first date was a walk through Cheesman Park. Neither knew the park had once been a cemetery, so technically their story began with the two of them unknowingly wandering over the dead.
There is an ancient Easter hymn that proclaims, "Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death." They laughed about the coincidence when they learned the history later, but looking back, there is something fitting about it. Their story began in a place marked by death, yet what was beginning between them felt unmistakably full of life. A reminder that love overcomes, and that God has a way of placing meaning in moments before anyone understands why.
After their walk, they went to Lick's Ice Cream to sit and talk. Somewhere in that conversation, Adam felt something he had never experienced before. Looking at Sarah across from him, he had an overwhelming sense that he needed to become a better man for the woman sitting in front of him.
After they left Lick's, Sarah called her dad, James, and told him she thought she had met her person.
Before the date was over, Adam told Sarah he was going to marry her.
It should have sounded crazy. It didn't.
Somehow, they already knew.
What followed was an adventure almost immediately. There were trips to Seattle, time with Sarah's family, and plenty of travel in between. Most couples might choose a quiet weekend away for their first trip together. Adam and Sarah, naturally, ended up surrounded by felons, former cons, and prison personnel while Adam spoke for a prison system in Idaho.

Sarah's family may have watched Adam from a sensible distance at first, which was probably reasonable. Adam's family had a different reaction. After his mom and Glen sat down with Sarah for lunch at an Italian restaurant in Castle Rock, their verdict was immediate:
Do. Not. Let. Her. Go.
He didn't.
Their first trip together to Black Butte Ranch carried a little more weight. Adam went there knowing exactly what he needed to do: putt putt golf with James, trapped for 18 holes, and popping the question for his daughter's hand in marriage on hole one.
James said yes.
With the blessing of Sarah's dad and a plan already beginning to take shape, Adam started working on the proposal. Trevor helped orchestrate the entire thing, from the classical quartet to the timing, the location, and secretly photographing it all.
And somewhere in the middle of planning that engagement, Adam and Sarah received another surprise.
Emery was on the way.
She did not change what Adam and Sarah already knew about each other or where their story was headed. They had known from that very first date that they were going to get married. Emery simply became an unexpected and beautiful part of the story before the next chapter had even officially begun.
When the time came to propose, Adam wanted the night to feel unmistakably like Sarah. They began with dinner at an Italian restaurant downtown, then walked toward Larimer Square. Sarah had no idea Trevor was tracking their location, coordinating a classical quartet, and making sure everything was ready when they turned the corner.

As they approached the music, Adam began telling Sarah what he had known from the beginning: she was his person. Sarah thought he was simply being sweet until he guided her onto a red carpet, dropped to one knee, and suddenly the quartet, the walk, and the entire evening made sense.

Looking back, even the Italian dinner feels like one more thread in a story neither of them could see yet. Years later, they would be gathering the people they love in Italy to make the promise official.
Emery ultimately changed the timing of the wedding, but looking back, God clearly knew the ceremony was missing someone important.
They needed a flower girl.
Becoming parents gave their relationship an entirely new depth. Watching Sarah become Emery's mom, watching Adam become her dad, and building a family together made the promise they were preparing to make feel even bigger.

And now, after the cemetery, the prison trip, Black Butte Ranch, the quartet, the surprise proposal, and the greatest surprise of all, Adam and Sarah are finally doing what they somehow knew they would do from the beginning.
They are getting married. In Italy. Surrounded by the people they love most.
